My friend, Heather

My friend, Heather Brown Moore, is an author and is about to release a new series of books about prophets from the Book of Mormon.  I met Heather on the streets of Egypt (ok, not really on the streets, but in our tiny little LDS branch in Cairo, when I was 7 years old).  She has written a series of books on the Book of Mormon, Out of Jerusalem, which starts with Lehi's dream and his departure out of Jerusalem.  These are fiction books, based on the scriptures and with lots and lots of research, she fills in details of what daily living was like, and makes the scriptures come alive. I've loved reading her books, and am so excited for this new book to come out.  It's entitled Abinidi and I can't wait to see how she weaves the story of this amazing prophet.

Good Reads

I think I am behind the times, but I just found out about GoodReads.com, where you can rate and review the books you've read, make lists of books you'd like to read, and find out what other people are reading and see their reviews. kinda cool. Especially since I can never remember all the good books I hear about. I go to the book store or the library, and I can't remember anything on my list. Now, hopefully, I'll remember. Plus you can get your friends to join and you can check out each others lists. Check out my good reads--I just began compiling it very late last night after a friend invited me to join....

Dancing Raisins and other exciting events

Thanks to Mama's Little Book of Tricks {available here}, my girls were entertained after school today. Using water, baking soda and vinegar, they learned how to make these raisins go up and down. They turned on the music and danced alongside the raisins. So entertaining. This book is full of fun ideas and things to do when the kids get bored.

In other news, Little I is staying with us for the week while her parents are in Italy. Lucky us! We love having a little one around the house. I am a few years out of practice and have forgotten all the cute things that 2 year olds do...like color all over the counter tops and barstools {luckily with washable markers!}, dump out her bowl of cereal {all over herself}, pour out all the bubble bath, and get into my make-up. But she is so dang cute, it just makes me smile. Wish I would have been this patient when mine were this little. Look at those eyes. And the cheeks. And the messy face from milk and cookies.

What I read on vacation...

Book #1:

LOVED this book. My friend Janice passed this book along to me last year and it has sat under my nightstand until now. Wish I would have picked it up sooner, because I couldn't put it down once I got going. Beautifully written. Kind of a grown-up "Little House on the Prairie," but better.

Book #2:

The Guy gave me this for Christmas so I saved it for the trip. I really enjoyed this much-hyped book--Elizabeth Gilbert was a guest on Oprah--need I say more? Sometimes, ok often, I am put off by "journey of self-discovery" books, but this one is worth reading as Gilbert makes some profound and enlightening discoveries, not just about herself, but about God and relationships and the human experience. I loved her wit and humor and this is one that I will definitely read again.
